Huron First United Methodist Church

Our Heritage

The History of the Methodist movement goes back to the mid-1700s.  John Wesley the founder of the Methodist movement has had great impact on the protestant church throughout America.  If you are in a small group, regardless of the church you attend, that idea came from Wesley.  Grace is the central focus to the Christian faith and life.

John's brother Charles Wesley is responsible for the majority of hymns that are found not only in the United Methodist Hymnal but other protestant hymnals as well.  Their influence and passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ set forth one of the greatest movements in church history.   Read more about the Methodist Heritage.

"I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America.  But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power.  And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out."     - John Wesley
